One of the things I decided to do this year was join Postcrossing. I read about it and decided it was a fun thing to get involved with- and signed up. Do people send postcards anymore in this world of Instagram. Well here’s a different perspective on postcards.
Postcrossing is a way of randomly exchanging postcards across the world.I love the randomness of never quite knowing where a card will come from next. It works by registering on the website at http://www.postcrossing.com which allows you to send up to 5 cards. Simply register and press the button that says send a card. You’ll get a reference number and address of someone in the world and you send them a postcard. I like to send one of my local area saying something about it.
Once the recipient gets the card they register it and you’ll be sent a card from someone somewhere in the world. That’s the bit I enjoy. You never know what is going to land on your doormat. I have received cards from all over the world – even as far away as Christmas Island. It’s actually inspiring for travel- in that I’m promoting my home town but am getting lots of ideas about where to go as well.
I thought it would be fun to actually visit the place I next receive a card from- not to turn up at the person’s home of course. That would be a bit like stalking. I meant- just to see the place having been inspired by my post. So here goes. The place I’ll visit on one of my January Journeys as an experience is……….. Madrid.

You know, we always post a card to ourselves in each new destination we touch. Buying postcards, stamps and a reliable to get it posted is something we do when we get to any city or even small town. Suan on the other hand continues to send cards, short letters to friends around the world. It is getting rare! Soon they might not see letter pads or post cards anymore!

That’s a great idea. I also send cards- my godmother has Alzheimers and she loves getting mail.I also have postcards sent by soldiers in World War One- they are so poignant and have incredibly survived for 100 years.
